Week 9: Faith in Trials

Theme Verse:

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”
— James 1:2 (NIV)

Welcome & Intentional Start

Let’s begin by turning our focus to God, our strength and our refuge.

Opening Prayer:
Lord, we come to You with open hearts, knowing that life brings challenges. Help us to see trials through the lens of faith. Strengthen us, grow us, and fill us with Your peace in every season. May we trust You more deeply, even when things are hard. In Jesus' name, amen.

Worship

Let these songs and Scripture remind you of God’s presence in the storm:

  • “Even If” – MercyMe

  • “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” – Hillsong UNITED

  • Psalm 46:1–3 – "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."

Worship Him not for the absence of trials, but for His nearness through them.

Scripture Reading

Begin with the theme verse, James 1:2.
To explore more fully, read James 1:2–8, which speaks of perseverance, wisdom, and growing in maturity through testing.

Discussion & Reflection

Reflect on these questions personally or with your group:

  1. What trials are you currently facing or have faced recently?

  2. How can faith shape the way you respond to those challenges?

  3. What does it look like to find joy—not in the pain—but in what God is producing through it?

Prayer Time

Invite God into your struggles and ask for endurance and peace.

Prayer Prompts:

  • Thank God for being with you in every trial.

  • Ask for wisdom and strength to walk through difficult seasons.

  • Pray for others you know who are facing hard times.

Breaking Bread (Optional)

Remember the suffering Christ endured on your behalf. Let this sacred moment remind you that you are never alone in your trials—He understands, He walks with you, and He has overcome.

Challenge for the Week

Each day this week, take a moment to journal or pray about how God is working in and through your challenges.

Say this aloud when trials arise:
“Lord, I trust You. Strengthen my faith through this.”

Closing Thought

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
— Romans 5:3–4

May your faith grow strong, your hope deepen, and your joy shine—especially in the trials.
